YOUR OFFICE FOLLOWING THE PRINCIPLES OF FENG SHUI
We spend more than half our time at the office. Therefore, we must be as comfortable as possible during that time. This will help us increase our performance, and reduce our stress levels.
There are several theories about how to make employees' time at their work places more pleasant. One of the theories we can apply to make our workspace more peaceful is Feng Shui. Literally, the translation of this term means “soft winds over calm waters”.
Feng Shui can help us feel more comfortable in our workplace, be it our own home or some place else. The working environment must not only be pleasant, but it should also motivate us to perform our tasks in the best possible manner.
The office must be functional and, above all, find a balance between the yin and the yang; balance will be established as long as the spaces surrounding us are able to provide a space of relaxation and concentration (yin) while, on the other hand, fostering and managing to promote activity (yang).
All the elements comprising the office must respect this equilibrium. The way in which the different elements are placed and distributed around a room will be key, according to Feng Shui principles, to help us feel better in our own workspace. The features of the furniture will also play a key role. The desk, without going any further, should be broad and spacious, and it should also be shaped like a kidney, or in any other rounded shape, with no angled corners. As an advice, the recommendation is to have a small figurine or artistic object on our desk, that will help activate our energy.
There are some office elements and materials that we can combine, in order to find the balance of energy we are looking for. If there is a carpet anywhere in the room, we should place a plant on top of it. Aside from looking to balance forces, Feng Shui also seeks to protect us from all that is negative. There are some recommendations to avoid negative energy in the work place. One of the premises from this philosophy is that we should never sit with our backs to doors or throughways, as these are equivalent to opportunities, and we must protect ourselves from potential betrayals and conjures plotted behind our backs.
Therefore, the chair that we sit on while on our desks, should have a high backrest, that covers most of our back. It is also advisable to have a wall or piece of furniture behind us, allowing us to be protected like a turtle: our shell will be the chair’s backrest and the wall or furniture.
